The first pair of Jeans
At the height of the Gold Rush in San Francisco, Strauss found people complaining that cotton britches and pockets “split right out”. So he came up with the idea of making rugged overalls from canvas he originally brought over to sell as tent cloth. Everyone was satisfied with their new trousers!
The word “Jeans”
It is widely believed that the name “jeans” comes from :Genoese:, a tough uniform worn by sailors in the Italian port city of Genova. “Jean” is from the Italian word “da Genova”.
